Cardiology is the branch of medicine pertaining
to the heart and the vascular system of the human body -- the
cardiovascular system. It is a subspecialty (fellowship) of Internal
Medicine. Physicians who specialize in this area of medicine are
called Cardiologists.
The
main components of the human circulatory system are the heart, the
blood, and the blood vessels (vascular system). An average
adult contains five to six quarts of blood, which consists of plasma
and three types of cells or cell fragments: red blood cells, white
blood cells and platelets.
Furthermore, these components can either belong to
the systemic circulation and the pulmonary circulation. The systemic
circulation is the main part of the circulatory system, while the
pulmonary system oxygenates the blood.
Cardiologists utilize a variety of tests and
procedures to diagnose and treat cardio-vascular problems. Our
office offers many cardiology and pulmonary function testing
services to help our patients.
