Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate and/or treat a pathological condition such as disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance, or sometimes for some other reason. An act of performing surgery may be called a surgical procedure, operation, or simply surgery. A surgeon is a person who performs operations on patients. Persons described as surgeons are commonly medical practitioners with extensive training and education in the surgical field. Surgery can last from minutes to hours depending upon the type of surgery, location and specific patient issues involved. However, surgery is typically not an ongoing or periodic type of treatment. Our physicians perform a variety of different types of surgery at the Emerald Coast Surgery Center and at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Some less invasive procedures are also performed in the office. |
