FORT WALTON BEACH, Florida–July 17, 2017—White-Wilson Medical Center (WWMC) is now providing advanced 3D imaging technology to its patients. The center has invested in a Genesis 3D mammography machine that allows for detection of up to 41 percent more invasive cancers.
"We are excited to now offer this advanced technology to our patients," said White-Wilson CEO Alan Gieseman. "3D mammography is the gold standard of mammography and will help our team to find breast cancer earlier and ultimately save lives."
The technology is available at the White-Wilson Center for Women's Imaging located in Fort Walton Beach. Unlike the flat view of a 2D mammogram, the 3D images are multidimensional and produce layers of images. These images are reviewed by board certified radiologists, who search for masses or abnormalities in the breast tissue.
"The advances in mammography are astounding. We are now able to thoroughly examine layers of breast tissue and find breast cancer earlier than ever before," said White-Wilson Chief Radiologist Dr. Norman Clinkscales. "One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, but with this technology, we can find cancer earlier and save lives."
Getting a 3D mammogram is just like getting a traditional mammogram. There is no additional compression required and getting the 3D images only takes a few seconds. The end results are higher quality images and, for many women, result in fewer call backs or false-positives.

The American College of Radiology guidelines recommend that all women over the age of 40 receive a mammogram annually. Annual mammograms allow physicians to monitor changes in the breast and act quickly, should abnormalities be found.
The White-Wilson Women's Imaging Department is currently accepting patients Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Patients outside of White-Wilson, with a current order for a mammogram, may schedule an appointment by calling the clinic.
